Hi,

Alas no - working from home today.

Just got back from skiing in the Dolomites last night. So wasn't planning on cycling to work today. My work clothes are also at home including shoes and shower stuff and bag I keep my stuff in etc. So I need to get my work clothes and bits and pieces back into work before cycling - panniers etc won't take the lot in one go.

Did go for a circular ride though, of 1.5 hours back to house today this morning, before turning the 'puter on and logging in remotely to the office. Just out round Halls Green and Weston. Made a few fresh tracks on the Bridleway out back of Halls Green - few animal tracks about, and kids on Weston green otherwise nothing.

Snow's great isn't it when your out on the bike...

I went out for a walk and realised you had not cycled up my hill, later i was on Digswell Hill and we saw tracks that ended in a fall, (the tyre tacks were going sideways) but it was not you who had hit the deck.

I planning on riding tomorow if the tains are running.

Had an epic today after yesterdays 'snow day' at home.

- Ride/slide to Welwyn North, train is one hour late.
- while on train they say it stops short of my normal starting place
- ride miles and miles get to work 11.45
- check with Capital Connect that the evening return Shepreth to Welwyn will be OK, no probs
- 6.00 pm ride 12 miles to Shepreth
- train cancelled no more coming tonight, nearest one Royston
- front light stops working (have headtorch)
- ride another 6 miles
- get train back to Welwyn
- ride home
- knackered, 35-40 miles of mixed off road
- Pint

Funny thing is by the time I got back I realised I was riding comfortably on the ice & snow, understanding the grip available by sound & texture and did not fall off once

Paul,

Sounds like quite an adventure

Yesterday ventured out in car with work stuff in bag for when I cycle. Unfortunately some numpties decided to have an accident at Stevenage South (J7 A1) and I came to complete standstill at Roebuck on Knebworth route option. So returned home after 30 mins of fun yesterday and I didn't even get out of Stevenage.

Today I didn't even bother trying driving. Went for a walk in the local countryside instead for a couple of hours. Much nicer.

I could cycle and sit at work in my cycling clothes but I think they'd object. Snow adds about 15 mins to my 50 min to 1 hour ride to work - mainly slowing down on corners and hills!

Lucky I have the option to work from home. My Indian colleagues don't even notice I'm at home unless I say as they like to use office communicator or email which is the same at home as work. My mobile is also a MOBEX which means you can dial it just like any other extension at work and I can also dial any extension at work for no cost (including India). Technology is great at times.

Phil

if only folk could work out how to use the 100 odd year old
piece of kit called the motor car properly..

Laybacking hurts less than jamming until you fall off.

Strange weather.

Been some great biking in the snow over the past week with a trip out to the Chilterns on Saturday.

Yesterday was floods, ice, slush and snow. More like white water biking than commuting. Today was like an ice rink in places.

Some light in sky on way home now. It's great having cycled through the shortest days to feel the light returning.

Whitehill almost caused me to high dab this morning with patches of ice.

You back on your bike Paul?

One day last week, being lazy and constantly put off by pathetic public transport, what I need is a job I can reach from home.

Cor Blimey...

Bit topsy turvy the temperatures.

I'm back wearing a wicking t-shirt (with a windproof jacket) this week. Overheated on way in, think I'll be zipping the arms off the jacket tonight. I'm seriously considering swapping the leggings for shorts for the commute now - and it's still February!

Thermal top, winter gloves, and a beanie hat in the snow the other week.

Not any more! shorts all the way now, back on the off-road route to Shepreth, looks gourgeous out there.

Paul,

You obviously don't cycle early enough in the morning! You need a windproof gilet in the mornings still - especially with the mist the other day.

Buebells are out in the woods since last Wednesday now though - so ride to/from work very pretty and tracks are all bone dry apart from odd patch

Wonderfully warm in the evening though. I'm doing a ride to the Rising Sun, Halls Green with Helen after my ride home tonight. Pubs crawls on bike - great idea me thinks

Did some extra loops in woods this morning - looking at the blue bells and tackling the drop offs - generally chilling before pointing the bike back towards the office - lovely.

Nick - Welcome to one of the best ways to commute in Hertfordshire etc.

Chalk by-ways around Barrington up to Bourne are superb now, I managed for the first time not to brake at all on the off-road sections.

Looking forward to this evening already

Paul,

As it is national bike to work week next week...

I'll be leading some work colleagues on my ride from Stevenage to WGC / Work next week.

Four on Monday
Two on Tuesday / Thursday
Three on Wed / Fri

Better let Sarah know that Whitehill may be littered with cyclists come Monday.

We've got some free breakfasts lined up, plus we are also planning to have a quick pint on the way home so should be a good week for me

Cheers

Phil
