I'd be interested, as i seem to go to a place and spend ~20 on a guide book for it and then it sits on a shelf. For example i now own a guide for ice climbing in La Grave, which has been invaluable, and i would like to use again, but may not.
So either i can lend out the book to other people or could have borrowed it in the first place.
A compromise could be a separate forum area for borrowing/lending books and people just sort it out amongst themselves keeping the club out of it. |

| Back in the 70's, a club member, John Sharp acquired 6 full sets of the UK OS maps, unfolded. I have a full set under the bed, and I think Dave goodey had a set as well. Not sure where the other 4 sets went to. A bit more club history trivia (for the new young members). |

Note to others also. Don't lend these lads anything from the library Thank you for your honesty OG

Think it's a good idea. If people don't want particular books or maps of theirs to risk getting trashed, then they can choose not to have them listed in the library, but I have some books I wouldn't mind at all lending out if I'm not using them, including a Dorset Rockfax and a Costa Blanca Rockfax which don't get much use. It would also be great to know who has what guide books, so that if you were going somewhere for the weekend, you could see who to beg sweetly to and promise not to drop their books from a great height... |

| I think its a great idea as i only have about 2 books on climbing so it would be very good for me if a library started. |

Being a usually positive fellow, I'm surprised to find I don't really support the idea of a library. Personally I like to own my own guide books and I thought the process of lending amongst club members on an ad-hoc basis worked quite well.
So if we had a library I don't think I'd use it and I also think that the books would probably 'disappear' with time - not in a malicious theft-ish kind of way but folk would probably just forget that they had them or might leave a book somewhere.
If we really have too much money burning a hole in our collective pockets I'd rather up the contribution to mountain rescue myself.
Sorry to put a downer on the idea. I like the idea, I just don't think it would work and that I wouldn't use it.
