Leigh Singleton - Secretary

Leigh joined the club in 2002, was voted onto the committee as Indoor rep in 2005 and in 2006 was elected as Secretary.  Leigh has been on many club trips, including the 2003 trip to Yosemite and the 2005 Alps trip to La Grave in the Ecrins, France.  In 2006 Leigh was elected 'Member of the Year', and organised & led the TMR (Tour de Monte Rosa) walk in the Italian Alps - 75 miles & 28,500 ft of up in 8 days.   Leigh enjoys skiing, is a good organiser, and comes from Essex. Jenny Gould - Indoor Meets

Details coming soon

Deborah Cole - Climbing

Deborah has been a member of the HMC since 2006, and has been making the effort to fall off harder routes ever since. She is regularly to be found at the Hatfield climbing wall on Tuesday nights, and often at the Castle in North London on Sundays, and hopefully on a sea cliff or crag somewhere on weekends during the summer.  Deborah Slovenski Summit 2006 climbing.gif (16083 bytes)

Carolyn Dent - Crux Editor

I joined the HMC in 2000 to find new climbing partners.  After the initial shock of being told the annual dinner was a casual affair (I turned up in jeans, to everyone else's black tie), I went on to enjoy a really fun and productive year and a half of climbing with the club.  In 2001 I moved to California, but maintained membership of the HMC, and hosted a meet in Yosemite during my time there.  I returned from the States in 2004, and have been a regular face at meets since then, these days walking more frequently than climbing.  I will soon be moving to the North West, but that won't stop me showing my face at meets, or editing Crux for that matter!

Paul Dormer - Mountain Biking Rep

Since joining the HMC in 2004, Paul has been on many meets including all at Herts Snowdonia Center.  Often to be found on Sunday mountain bike rides and participates in and helps organise the September multi-day rides. He's been skiing, walking and mountain biking since schooldays but found the HMC when looking for a club to go scrambling with and develop better all round skills, On the mountains he wants to improve his scrambling and climbing by working his way through the 'Easy climbs and Scrambles' book...

Recent past committee members

Alex Pender
Alex joined the HMC a few years ago, and at the 2004 AGM elected to the onerous role of mountain bike rep (and re-elected in 2006).  Alex is a keen mountain biker and organises lots of wild weekends on muddy hillsides in pouring rain with many punctures and a long way to go to the pub.  Alex is also the holder of the HMC YHA discount card.  In his spare time Alex lives in the wilds of North Herts, looking for the ultimate off road bike experience.

Caroline Cook
Caroline joined the HMC in the early 2000's and was voted onto the committee in 2004 as outdoor meets secretary (and re-elected in 2006), taking down details of members in her meets book. Caroline retired from the committee in 2008.  Caroline was a very enthusiastic meets secretary, booking meets months, and even years in advance.  In the past Caroline has lived in Vietnam & Hong Kong, had Malaria & Dengue fever, and ran with the Hash House Harriers.
Caroline Cook.jpg (14846 bytes)
Kevin Blissett
Kevin joined the HMC in Jan 2004 with the intention of getting out more and doing wild and exciting things on mountains. Having spent the first two months of 2006 in plaster from the knee down, he has decided this is far too dangerous and so joined the committee as indoor meets rep. Kevin lives in St Albans and is particularly adept at arranging beer and curry evenings.
Bill Marsh
Cool shades Bill is our former Crux editor, seen here in reflective mood. Having been a member since 1990 and avoiding any responsibility within the HMC, Bill finally succumbed to the Crux Editorship in 2001 (and re-elected in 2003 & 2005 AGMs). A keen all-round sportsman, as well as being a keen climber and hill walker, Bill still manages to play cricket, tennis and a enjoys a bit of mountain biking.
In his spare time he works in the Graphics industry as a self-employed Designer using AppleMacs. See Bill if you want any T shirts or promotional material designing & printing, including the HMC T shirts, sweat shirts & hats.

She later took up rock climbing and completed further courses in Improver Climber and Self-Rescue for Climbers, at Plas-y-Brenin. Ann has climbed in the Alps with the Club almost every summer, ticking off many summits, including Nadlehorn, Lagginhorn and Mont Blanc de Cheillon, as well as occasional ice-climbing in winter. Ann was elected to Outdoor meets in 2002 & Chairman in 2004, standing down in 2006 due to TA commitments.
Ian Gibbon
Ian joined the HMC in 2000, elected to climbing rep in 2002 and at the 2004 AGM took on the onerous role of Treasurer.  Ian stood down in 2005.  Ian is a keen climber and used to maintain the climbing email list, plus a list of local walls and climbers.

After joining the HMC, Stepan was first elected to climbing rep in 1998, standing down at the 1999. In 2004 Stepan was re-elected as climbing rep and stood down in 2005. In his spare time Stephan is a qualified medic and drives ambulances around Herts & Beds.  His medical skills could be very useful on the crags, so no excuses for the climbers - 'you push your grades, why not'.

Bill Burt
Bill was elected as outdoor rep at the 1999 AGM, elevated to Chairman at the 2000 AGM and stood down at the 2004 AGM to work in Norway during 2004. Bill joined the HMC in order to get cheap mountain insurance from the BMC for a trip to Mont Blanc in 1997! He turned up to a few Tuesdays and then decided to go on a meet. He is now hooked (a man's got to have a hobby). Bill started walking in the Lakes on family holidays, started climbing and mountain climbing at school including an "expedition" to Norway. Climbed a bit in the Avon Gorge when in Bath, then gave up for almost 20 years, until he decided to "do" Mont Blanc.

Debbie Smith
Debbie joined the HMC in 1998 and at the 2002 AGM volunteered to take on the role of indoor meets.  Due to her work commitments (working in Helsinki is not convenient for Herts), Debbie stood down from the committee in 2003.

James joined the HMC in 1998, and in 2000 'volunteered' to take over the creation and publication of CRUX from Phil W.  James stood down in 2001, handing CRUX over to Bill Marsh.
Anne Noon
Anne Noon was elected indoor rep at the 1999 AGM, then moved to Walking Rep and Secretary before retiring from the committee.
Jane Whitrow
Jane joined the HMC in 1996, and was elected to the committee in 1997, as Indoor Meets sec, and at the 1998 AGM she was elected to Treasurer.  Jane stood down at the 2000 AGM to start a family - 2 little Whitrow's so far.
Michael Baldwin
Michael joined the HMC in the late 70's and has held a number of positions on the committee over the years.  Michael stood down as chairman at the 1998 AGM and now owns and runs La Source, a Ski Chalet in Villard Reculas, near Alpe d'Huez, France.  For further information, call 0033 476 803032,  email  Lasourcefrance@aol.com    or visit the LaSource web site:   www.lasource.f9.co.uk .

Dave Nicholson
Dave joined the HMC in the early 70's, and was one of the early climbing tigers of the HMC, along with Dave Goodey, Mick Bail, Dick Enstone, etc.  Dave was elevated to Chairman in 1984 and held the club together as Chairman for 7 years.  Dave is still in the club.
Dave Goodey

Dick Enstone
Dick joined the HMC in the 70's at the tender age of 16, and had to get special dispensation from his mother to come to the Station Hotel in Knebworth where the HMC met at the time.  After his time as chairman in the 90's, Dick moved to Geneva where he is now lives & works - occasionally returning to the UK.
Mike Jones
Mike joined the HMC in the 80's, was very well spoken, and rose the position of chairman in 1991.  Mike also ran a private outward bound business organising & leading walks, etc.

There was also a walk up a Kurdish mountain in northern Iraq in 1978, hastily cut short to avoid being seen by an Iraqi army helicopter.  In his spare time Albert works for IBM, and occasionally rides his Brompton bike on meets.
