Scotland trip, staying at Glen Feshie hostel, on the west side of the Cairngorms near to Aviemore and Kingussie. 14 places at £48 total for 4 nights (Thursday to Sunday nights). April 05-09 Easter in Ireland, at the Mount Brandon Hostel, located at the foot of Brandon Mountain (3127') along the Dingle Way in the village of Cloghane, Castle Gregory, Co. May 04-07 Camping trip to South Pembroke, with the best limestone sea-cliff climbing in the country at all grades. For climbing information check out the Rockfax Website Great beaches for swimming and surfing and other water sports, e.g. Broad Haven and Freshwater West. The coastal path takes in some amazing scenery with many stacks, arches and caves. July 20-22 Lake District Bob Graham HMC Relay, ~70 miles in under 24 hours.  In July 2006 our illustrious Chairman, Geoff D, completed the BG round in 23 hours and 24 mins.  This year we are going to do a club relay and of course beat Geoff's time!  Camping will be at the Braithwaite campsite.  If any one is interested in taking part or supporting on the weekend, come and talk to Dave Hall in the pub on a Tuesday night at the Sun Inn. Cycle trip along the South Downs Way. The South Downs Way runs from Winchester to Eastbourne and is mostly off road.  It is 160 km long and approximately 3000m of ascent. 

Day1 (Sat) will be catching the train to Winchester on Sat, and cycling to Cocking (~48km) to a B&B.

Day2 (Sun) cycling from Cocking to YHA Truleigh Hill (~35km).

Day3 (Mon) cycling from YHA to Eastbourne (~64km) and catch the train home.

The trip will be unsupported so you will need to pack light and a good level of bike fitness will be required. Final costs tbc.

Jan 20-22 Grasmere, Lake District * Grasmere Thorney How Youth Hostel, LA22 9QG  grid ref NY336079  Situated 15 mins from the centre of picturesque Grasmere, close to walking at Helvellyn, Fairfield and Langdale Pikes. Places for 29 people at a cost of £22 for 2 nights.  Ideal to get rid of those January blues! A good mild & sunny weekend, with 24 members attending.  On Saturday many walked from the hostel to Pavey Ark, Sergeant Man & High Raise.  On Sunday many went up Helvellyn. Caroline Cook

May 26-29 Late May Bank holiday camping meet at Great Langdale National Trust Campsite  OS Grid Ref: NY286059.  Situated at the Head of Great Langdale Valley.  Provides an excellent base for fell walking, rock climbing (Gimmer Crag & Raven Crag) and mountain biking. Overlooked by the Langdale Pikes and with views towards Crinkle Crags and Bowfell, this site is a spectacular location for walking (and visiting the legendry Old Dungeon Gill pub). - a wet & windy weekend, with hail & bits of sun.  16 attended, some drinking Old Peculiar in the Dungeon Gill.  Geoff Deans practiced for the Welsh 14 3000's on June 3rd, and the Lakes Bob Graham round on July 15th.  Pete Durkin
May 28-29 Alex Pender and Pete Ambrose, are taking part in a sponsored cycle ride in the Chilterns organised by Wallingford Round Table. It is 98 miles over 2 days (28th and 29th May 2006) to raise money for local charities.  Accommodation details tbc.  See link for further details

July 01-10 July 2006 trip to Benasque valley, Central Spanish Pyrenees.  The Pyrenees offer less high alpine mountaineering but lots of opportunities for walking, scrambling and climbing, with many peaks (eg Aneto) around the 3000m height. The highest generally require a short snow or glacier crossing, but many 3000m summits involve no serious snow in the main summer season.   If you are interested, contact Geoff.  He can show you maps, guides etc, and answer questions.  Geoff Sharpe

Geoff Deans completed the Bob Graham round in 23 hrs 28 mins, starting Friday 14th July at 6.30 pm & finishing Saturday 15th at 5.58pm.  The round included 42 peaks, 28,500ft of ascent (& descent) & covered 74 miles.  Geoff was assisted by Dave Hall, who completed the round in 1985 (he was no. 375) -  see www.bobgrahamround.co.uk for more details  -  Phew, The TMR (Tour de Monte Rosa) in 1 day - Well done Geoff. In the middle of Bamford on a small mixed farm, one mile from Bamford Edge & 3 miles from Stanage Edge.  Ladybower, Derwent and Howden Reservoirs are 1.5 - 7 miles further up the valley, & only 2 minutes walk from two local pubs.  Places for 26 people at a cost of £17 each for the weekend.  Adrian Jones

May 27-30 Late May b/hol, Sea cliff climbing in South Pembroke, camping at the Castle Farm Caravan Site in Angle, Pembroke, SA71 5ARPembrokeshire offers fantastic sea cliff climbing and enjoyable coastal walks.   The campsite costs £2.50 per head/night and you will need some 10p pieces for the shower.  There are two pubs nearby and also a café.   As you drive into Angle head right at the church.  You should then be able to spot the camp site.  Look out for HMC cars.  Pete Durkin

July 19 Tues EGM - The committee will be calling an Extra-ordinary General Meeting on Tuesday 19th July 2005 at 8.30pm, to discuss and gain approval of the 2004-05 accounts which were not signed off at the last AGM.  A 30% quorum is needed for approval of the accounts.  If you cannot attend please email Ann Peden with your approval, or otherwise.   The Committee would like to pass on their sincere thanks to Jane Whitrow for Auditing the accounts, with Marion Ford's assistance. - The accounts were accepted by the EGM.  A proposal was made to move the HMC accounting year from April to March, to be Jan to Dec, to match the membership year.  This will require changes to the HMC Constitution at the 2006 AGM, for implementation in 2007. Sept 3-11 Coast 2 Coast Mountain Biking . Phil & Alex will be biking from St Bees, Cumbria  on the west coast to Robin Hoods Bay, North Yorkshire on the east coast.  A route of 210 miles with a suitable mix of off road and quiet lanes, the plan is to complete the ride in 6 days.   The route will pass through 3 National Parks - Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and the North York Moors.  We will be staying in a mix of Youth Hostels, B&Bs, and bunkhouses with the over night luggage being transported each day. Local pub within 200yds.  See www.oldschoolbunkhouse.co.uk  & Caroline for further details.  - Most people walked up Whernside on the Saturday & got wet & cold in the mist & drizzle.  3 people went biking & one members property was 'borrowed' without asking, returned later, wet & muddy.
